25 Years Ago: Two members of the Middlefield Board of Finance charged that the first selectman’s failure to make a decision in the Harvest Woods sewerage issue resulted in pitting the residents against the residents of Harvest Woods.

25 Years Ago: A New Britain woman who said she’s wanted a horse since she was a child had her dream come true when she won a horse as a door prize attending a public demonstration at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield.

Westbrook fined $100; East Hampton library received 250 new books

25 Years Ago: The town of Westbrook was fined $100 by the state Department of Environmental Protection because it failed to conduct routine water monitoring at the landfill.

25 Years Ago: The East Hampton library announced the arrival of 250 new titles as part of the library’s McNaughton Plan, a program which allowed the library to lease books.

East Haddam remembered the difficulties of getting around town in 1986; More funding was needed for firehouse building project

25 Years Ago: Although 1986 brought several major stories to East Haddam, it was remembered by many residents as the year when getting from one end of the town to the other was difficult, if not impossible.

25 Years Ago: Additional funds were needed for the Company No. 2 Firehouse building project in Portland, and the increase in the project budget was approved at a referendum by the town Board of Selectmen.

Deep River First Selectman reflected on 1986; Regional District 17 faced lots of decisions

25 Years Ago: There was some rough riding for Deep River First Selectman Robert R. Stalsburg in his first year in office, but there also appeared to be some smooth spots. The year 1986 heralded some good news like the funding received to construct an addition to the library, despite the many issues the town encountered.

25 Years Ago: Regional District 17 faced a year of decisions in 1987 as the Board of Education sought voter approval for a building program to address space and facilities problems at aging elementary schools in Haddam and Killingworth.
