Middlefield prohibited constables from using police cruisers; Young girl fell through ice in Westbrook

25 Years Ago: Middlefield First Selectman James R. Blois prohibited the town constables from using the town police cruiser for private duty and ordered the cars garaged on town property as opposed to being driven to and from work by constables.
25 Years Ago: Tara Turchetti, a 9-year-old who fell through the ice at Oxford Academy in Westbrook and was underwater for close to 15 minutes, walked on her own for the time since the accident, officials said following her recovery.
